Skyline Divide

Sometimes, a good, old-fashioned micro-adventure is just what I need.  So one summer night in 2017 my wife, my friend Bryan, and I decided to hike up to the alpine meadows on the north side of Mount Baker in Washington.

       We arrived in the middle of the night and slept for just a few hours under the stars before a thunderstorm woke us up right before sunrise.  A combination of the storm clouds and smoke from nearby wildfires provided a brilliant sunrise.

       We enjoyed our coffee with an extra helping of mosquitoes, intermittently swatting and sipping while we watched the rosy hills brighten with the coming day.

       Kelly couldn't resist a little morning trail run and took off through the wildflower meadows toward Baker to the south.  I kept up as best I could.
